Donegal Connect Festival

The objective of the initiative is to bring people back to Donegal to explore the county and find out for themselves why it is a great county to visit, to relocate to, to grow up in, to be educated in, to work in, to invest in or to retire in....The aim is to reconnect with individuals who have left Donegal but who still maintain that strong link and affinity or those who are just curious and would like to explore our beautiful county.We in Donegal are very fortunate to live in a county of outstanding beauty and one that offers a unique family friendly lifestyle, a place where employment and investment opportunities exist and where businesses can successfully operate and compete on a global stage.We have the support of a very strong and active organising committee including:Donegal County Council, Udarás Na Gaeltachta, Letterkenny Institute of Technology, The IDA, Key employers including – Pramerica, Randox, Abbotts Diabetes CareWe all share the common vision to promote Donegal and to showcase the very best that we have to offer. The initiative will take place over 10 days from September 27th – October 06th 2019.   It will have something for everyone including events focussed on culture and heritage, sport, music with world renowned Donegal artists playing in iconic venues throughout the county, genealogy events and clan gatherings, opportunities to network and find out the practical information on relocating to Donegal to tourist events showcasing some of our hidden gems within the county.The programme will commence with the Tip O Neill Irish Diaspora Awards 2019.  I encourage you to nominate individuals or groups that you believe have excelled in their chosen field and deserve recognition for their achievements.  The nomination process is now open and can be made on line at www.irishdiasporaawards.comIreland is currently the European Headquarters for many of the World’s largest Fin Tech companies.  This sector is a priority for the Irish Government converging ICT, Financial and Technology sectors which continue to provide significant opportunities to Ireland. The Northwest region has been branded an ICT/FinTech Region and this is a significant development for Donegal as the sector is a major employer in the county with significant growth expected in the coming years.  These major employers in the county have embraced this initiative and will be hosting a number of planned events promoting the job opportunities that exist in their companies.Members of the Diaspora have on many occasions raised the idea of connecting their children to their homeland through exploring educational opportunities back in the Northwest and whilst this conversation has begun, the programme will also include an opportunity to explore firsthand the educational offering available in the region.For those who can’t make it home we will be live streaming a number of the larger scale music and cultural events so I am encouraging you to keep an eye on the Donegal Diaspora website for further details on the events.Donegal is a place of world famous spectacular beauty, steeped in music and culture, creativity and sport, a place where the beauty of Mother Nature and the friendliness of human nature combine to provide the perfect environment to enjoy life and a warm welcome awaits you.
