Filligans – A Taste of Donegal Now Available in America

The taste of home-made Donegal artisan produce is now available to purchase in America. Filligans of Donegal specialises in the production of handmade preserves, marmalades, chutneys, relishes, mustards, dressings and oils, and is now exporting its premium mustards to the east coast of America. Based in west Donegal in Glenties, Filligans was established over 20 years ago by Philip and Sara Moss.
Director of Filligans, Willie Cremen, says entry to the US market was a welcome boost to the company: “Like most businesses we’ve faced many challenges during 2020, so we’re delighted to have the opportunity to expand into the American market. Our Irish diaspora living abroad are always looking to taste a little bit of home, so to be able to share a true, authentic Irish product with them is something special.”
“The support of the Local Enterprise Office has been key to the growth of our business over the years and it was actually thanks to a contact that we made through Donegal LEO that the opportunity to export to the east coast of America came about this summer. It really is an exciting development for the business and creates another avenue for us to explore. We look forward to growing and hopefully see the full Filligans range available to the US market in the months ahead.”
From humble beginnings, the Filligans food story started in 1997 when Philip and Sara Moss began making jam, marmalade and chutney for a Dublin craft shop. The couple expanded the commercial kitchen beside their home twice before moving to new facilities in the local area.
“There are around 60 different products in the Filligans range and everything we produce is hand-made in small batches using traditional farmhouse methods. All our recipes are original and have been passed down from generation to generation, or developed through the process of research, experimentation and taste-testing. Aside from traditional flavours and recipes, we are also very conscious of meeting the demand for contemporary tastes too. Our Chilli Jam, Onion Marmalade and Fiery Pepper Relish are very popular for people looking to add flavour to everyday meals,” Willie said.
After a busy summer and launch of its new online store, the team at Filligans now move their attention towards the Christmas gifting market. Customers can purchase personalised gift bags with their favourite Filligans products. Willie says a Christmas gift set from Filligans is the perfect gift idea for food lovers: “Our personalised sets are the ideal gift for anyone looking to purchase a foodie present for someone living at home. We offer nationwide delivery within five days and can also include personalised messages.”
