Himalayan Style Wild Camping Treks in Donegal,

Namaste Nomad is offering unique Himalayan Style Wild Camping treks in Donegal. A qualified mountaineer with seventeen years experience leading treks, tours and expeditions in the Himalayas, Mohan Nepal, Co-founder of Namaste Nomad, is now based in Donegal, Ireland where he lives with his wife Carol (a Donegal native) and their young family.
It was when Mohan first arrived in Donegal five years ago, that he saw the potential for Himalayan style trekking to be introduced. Although the peaks are not quite as high as the Himalayas, he saw the tremendous beauty in the rugged mountainous landscape, with the added bonus of beautiful beaches, something the Himalayas doesn’t have. Mohan loved going on long treks off the beaten path, through the Derryveagh Mountains, passing many hidden lakes and waterfalls and found great stillness there, no matter what the weather. Mohan found the air to be as pure and fresh as the Himalayas, and a similarity in terms of the rich culture in both places. The idea came to do the Himalayan Style treks here – where everything is provided– tents, guides, cooks, food, and the team of staff to carry of the bags and pitch the tents - just like in the Himalayas. With years of experience leading these kinds of treks, Mohan wondered why it couldn’t be done in Donegal, a place with such similar beauty. He also realized it could add to the local tourism and employment in the area. He created an itinerary – a route to follow and where he takes people on the routes he loves to trek himself, staying in a different location every night, nomadic style. People can enjoy the Wilderness of Donegal, yet with the safety of travelling with experienced Guides and with a group. The four day trekking tour was introduced including two nights Wild Camping, and two nights music & craic in local pubs.
‘Many people don’t want to bother with pitching a tent, but they love to sleep under the stars listening to the sound of the river. These tours take the hassle out of camping, leaving only the good stuff – nature, trekking, the great outdoors, peace, safety, beauty and fun with like-minded people.’ Mohan
