International Office at LYIT

LYIT is a state of the art campus situated in the beautiful landscape of Donegal, in North West Ireland. We are a small friendly campus with 3,500 full time undergraduate and postgraduate students. Amongst our numbers we welcome 200 International students to LYIT each year from a host of different countries. Our International students play an important role in the overall learning environment and student experience. With a small numbers of International students in classes all students have the opportunity of an enriched global education learning from both peers and lecturers. We work closely with our American partners and continue to forge new links within America and Canada. There is a strong kinship and friendship bond between Donegal and America and for this reason we particularly enjoy welcoming our incoming American students and visiting delegations to our shores. We enjoy introducing them to Donegal’s unspoilt landscape and culture. Many of our visitors feel at home the moment they arrive.

We encourage our International students to play an active role in student life at LYIT by joining the many clubs and societies on offer. LYIT’s International society is particularly strong and hosts many events and weekend excursions throughout the year to beaches, Christmas markets, castles and bowling parties to name but a few.

Our International office is friendly and lively and always on hand to help or give advice. We advise on everything from accommodation and visa issues to where to buy the best bargains. There is never a dull day in the International office as our work with International students and visiting delegations from around the globe is varied and fun. We love meeting people from new places and learning about their cultures and life experiences.

Our American visitors enjoy the ‘Craic’ in Donegal which often includes music, dance, singing and trying out our award winning local cuisine.

The International office is open to all as we not only welcome and assist our incoming International students but help Irish students to study abroad also. The Erasmus team work tirelessly to provide a wide range of study and work experiences across Europe for our students. We also offer study abroad opportunities in the USA and Asia.

This year we have had the pleasure of spending time with several American universities both at home and while travelling to the United States. We have been fortunate to work with Lasell College, UMass Lowell, Worcester State University and Notre Dame Maryland. We had the great pleasure of hosting the Tipp O’Neill award winner at LYIT, Massachusetts State President Therese Murray. While with us Senate President Therese Murray was delighted to announce that our North West Science park on the LYIT campus will be home to the Massachusetts Medical Device Development Centre expansion into Europe. We are proud to be part of this unique initiative and look forward to a future successful partnership.  

The International office with its open door policy helps students to settle quickly and make the most of their study abroad experience. We connect students with each other and with Industry to give a full all rounded Irish educational experience to each of our visitors.
