The Donegal Library and Archive Service is a first point of call for anyone wishing to learn about life in the county – past and present.  This rich resource comprises books, maps, photographs, archives, microfilms, newspapers, original documents and genealogical sources. It is a truly unique collection chronicling the history of Donegal and its people from pre history to the present day.

The two main collections are housed in the Central Library, Letterkenny, and the County Archives, Lifford,  with smaller local collections available in each branch Library.  The Donegal Library and Archives Service offers all visitors the opportunity to conduct their own research into their family history using a variety of sources. Visitors can also explore a wealth of information on towns, townlands and parishes of Donegal and possibly discover the exact location of the homestead of their ancestors.

Donegal County Library Service has also recently launched a fantastic new booklet - 'Who Do You Think You Are: A Guide to Genealogy Resources':
