Exciting milestone for the Derry and Strabane City Deal will have a positive impact on Donegal

North West higher education providers, Ulster University joined with city and region partners on 24 February 2021 to celebrate the Heads of Terms Agreement for the Derry and Strabane City Deal.

Welcoming this important milestone, Malachy Ó Néill, Provost of the Ulster University Magee Campus in Derry Londonderry said:

“The Derry and Strabane City Deal represents a bold, transformational plan for the North West and will position the region as a Hub for Innovation and Life and Health Sciences. The City Deal and its suite of catalyst projects will make Derry~Londonderry and neighbouring Donegal an even more attractive location in which to study, work, live and invest. We will work alongside Derry City and Strabane District Council and all other strategic partners to deliver this for the City and wider region. This signing of the Heads of Terms Agreement demonstrates the vision and collaborative spirit of all partners who are to be congratulated for reaching this stage.”

A student from Donegal, Alisha Coll who is studying personalized medicine at Ulster University in Derry is one of the young people who will benefit from the developments planned for the region in the years ahead. She joined other young people in welcoming the City Deal and speaking about her desire to pursue her career in the North West.

Alisha talks about the skills she has acquired during her degree, her experience with the Northern Ireland Clinical Research Services and the opportunities the Derry & Strabane City Deal, which features a pioneering personalised medicine project, THRIVE, will present for the city and region in the future.
